Get
E-Mail Newsletters to Mention Your Site
Just Ask
If you want to get your Web site mentioned in
newsletters, the most basic way is to contact the
editors and ask. Call or e-mail them and explain how
your Web site relates to their subscriber base and
why they should write about it.
Give Away Free Stuff
Everybody loves free stuff. In all forms of Web
marketing, the word "free" typically guarantees
click-throughs. When you approach an e-mail
newsletter for a mention, offer a contest or
giveaway that will only be open to list members who
click through from the newsletter. You could also
offer free samples to any interested list members.
Try Before You Buy
Some newsletters will offer you the opportunity to
place an ad for free in exchange for future
advertising. For example, a weekly newsletter might
let you place a free ad for two weeks and if, after
two weeks you are happy with the results, they ask
you to pay for any subsequent ads that you place
with them.
Promotion
Send the newsletter editor a free sample of your
product and ask for a review.
Submit an Article
Some newsletters and e-zines solicit articles and
reviews from their members. Do not explicitly write
about your Web site and products, instead write a
pertinent article for the newsletter and include
your Web site's address in your byline or signature.
Offer a Link
In exchange for an ad in an editor's newsletter,
offer a place on your Web site for your visitors to
sign up for the newsletter.
Fill Empty Space
Contact a newsletter and ask if they need to fill
any space. When editors are unable to fill all of
their ad space they might let you have the empty
space for free. If a newsletter does offer you a
free ad, be sure to pay for another one somewhere
down the road when there's enough money in the
budget.
Free Ads
Although rare, some newsletters do allow subscribers
to submit a free ad on a daily, weekly or monthly
basis. Whether or not they are listed is at the
discretion of the newsletter's editor.
If you receive a mention or place an ad and it
doesn't work, don't get discouraged. Research has
shown that it takes persistence to build awareness
and confidence among Web users. Stick to your
strategies week after week and build your
recognition.
